Phnom Penh: Canadian International School partners with opera production

The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh provides a world-class experience in the heart of Phnom Penh. Following the Alberta (Canadian) Curriculum and, as an IB World School, we have one purpose–to create a safe and enriching environment in which each and every learner is engaged to become an accomplished, caring and empowered global citizen.

CIS boasts state-of-the-art performing and visual arts facilities designed to support every student in their creative journey. A performing arts theatre, recording studio, orchestra room, dance studio, art studios and a pottery studio enable students to pursue their creative interests.

Our Fine Arts Program guides students to explore their individuality through creative expression and to develop a critical understanding and appreciation of art in all its forms. CIS students engage in a variety of activities that enrich their overall education through their active participation in the arts.

The John Crawford Theatre at Koh Pich Campus hosts professional-level dramatic and musical showcases. Last year, CIS presented “The High Seas'' elementary musical and a student-led talent show, “CIS goes MADD.” Students have an opportunity to be involved in productions both behind-the-scenes and on stage every year.

The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program promotes a greater understanding of Cambodia’s intangible cultural heritage. CIS hosts muralists, musicians, dancers, painters, performers and actors for extended periods of time on campus.

Through the AiR Program, students interact with the artists through inquiry and participation in artistic creation. They gain exposure to and first-hand experience of artistic production. Recently, CIS hosted the Princess Buppha Devi Dance School, the Tep Botomvong Orchestra, and muralists Fonki and Tamara Venn.

We are excited to announce that, as part of our AiR Program, CIS will have the opportunity to collaborate with the cast and producers of Madama Butterfly. The cast will rehearse in our music spaces at Koh Pich Campus. CIS students will be able to learn from professionals in their field. This will be an incredible opportunity!
